The Iron Horse Festival will take place on Friday, September 28th and Saturday, September 29th. Friday will be the HoboStew September 28 brought to you by the Mineola Landmark Commission.It will begin at 5 p.m. and continue until the hobos eat all of the stew.You’ll be able to preorder or just walk up and purchase your meal of stew,cornbread or crackers, dessert and a drink for $10. This will be held at theFarmers Market pavilion west of the Depot. Contact Doris Newman at 903-705-3399or to preorder. Proceeds will go the Iron Horse Square. Saturday will be a day full of fun and family with weenie dog races, pie baking contest, watermelon eating contest, food vendors, music, an exotic petting zoo, a bean cook off, bounce houses, arts & craft vendors, a shoot out by the depot, and much more!

Mineola Mayor Kevin White presented the “Texans against Crime” proclamation to Police Chief Chuck Bittner. The TAC program promotes cooperative police and community crime prevention efforts. Anyone interested in hosting a special event on TAC Day on October 9th this year should contact the Police Department. Typical events include visits to the neighborhood by police and first responders, block parties, cookouts, and short speeches at public meetings where neighborhood safety and crime prevention is discussed. WHEREAS, “Texans against Crime” provides a unique opportunity for Mineola, Texas to join forces with other communities statewide in promoting cooperative police-community crime prevention efforts; and WHEREAS, it is essential that all citizens of Mineola be aware of the importance of crime prevention programs and the impact their participation can have on reducing crime, drug abuse and violence in Mineola; and WHEREAS, police-community partnerships, neighborhood safety, awareness and cooperation are important themes of the “Texans Against Crime” program; and WHEREAS, the citizens of Mineola, Texas play a vital part in assisting the Mineola Police Department through joint crime prevention efforts in Mineola and are supporting “Texans Against Crime 2018” locally; and WHEREAS, the City of Mineola will be participating in the “Texans Against Crime” for 2018, with various neighborhood activities planned, such as; block parties, cookouts, flashlight walks and, with Police Officers and Firemen visiting various neighborhoods throughout the evening festivities. NOW, THEREFORE, Tuesday, October 9, 2018, is hereby proclaimed by the Mayor and City Council as: Texans against Crime in the City of Mineola, Wood County, Texas. The Mayor and City Council call upon all citizens of Mineola to join the Mineola Police Department in supporting and participating in the “Texans against Crime 2018”.
